“As a woman who has spent her entire career in the tech industry, I am optimistic that the actions Google has taken as part of this settlement will bring greater equality to women,” said Holly Pease, one of the women brought the case.
The settlement concerns women in 236 different positions, the lawyers said. According to the female employees, Google pays them more than $ 16,500 a year less than men who are “in the same situation”. That would appear from an analysis by David Neumark, an economist at the University of California at Irvine.
The settlement has yet to be approved by the court. The first hearing is on June 21.
