On Monday, BFC coach Christian Benbennek (49) spoke to BZ about extending his contract with the regional league champions. Then on Tuesday the surprising turnaround.
“BFC Dynamo and coach Christian Benbennek are ending their collaboration, the expiring contract will not be extended,” the club announced in the afternoon.
Missed promotion, job that was believed to be gone – a bad week for Benbennek.
The coach could not be reached for comment. Dynamo President Norbert Uhlig: “I can’t say anything about that. Everything there is to say about this is in the press release,” Uhlig said shortly. Uhlig did not want to comment on whether he was surprised by Benbennek’s advance. “I will not answer the question,” said Uhlig, referring to the BFC homepage.
Benbennek was with the Weinroten for three years. Now the end, despite the regional league championship and the narrowest possible chance of missing promotion to the 3rd division against VfB Oldenburg.

Background to the separation: Despite the championship title, Benbennek was no longer convinced at BFC. And had been looking around for possible alternatives for weeks. A new coach should now be presented promptly.
It’s hard to imagine what the club’s management would have done if the promotion had been successful. Then a split from Benbennek, who was very popular with many Dynamo fans, would have been even harder to explain…
