Chris Umé has specialized in deepfake technology in recent years, where you can imitate someone in real life. Our compatriot became world famous for his deepfakes of Tom Cruise. And now there’s a new stunt on his resume: participating in ‘America’s Got Talent’. “We worked together with Daniel Emmett, who was featured in the program years ago,” Umé says during Joe’s morning show. “He comes on stage and in front of him is a big camera. That ensures that Daniel is transformed on the screen behind him into judge Simon Cowell.”
Cowell was already impressed. “I’ve always said there’s such a thing as the perfect candidate: someone who sings great and looks great too. We’ve found him now,” he joked. Umé’s act got four yeses and so goes through to the next round. “Deepfake technology is evolving very quickly, we have no idea where we will be next year,” said Umé. “The act on ‘America’s Got Talent’ is the best advertisement we could imagine. What are we going to do in the next round? There are some ideas, but I’m not going to reveal much yet, of course.”
