★★★★ A couple of tango actors and dancers rehearse a play where their own sensations and stories are put into play at the same time. They are just her and him, and a constant swing between fiction and reality is interweaving, revealing and reviving that passion that once united them, and now threatens to return.
Such is the synthesis of “Amor, ¿es amor?”, an agile proposal that occupies the Payró scene. With good rhythm and humor, Gabriela Bianco mixes that mixture of today and yesterday, breaking the fourth wall, achieving the complicity of the public. There are attractive choreographic sequences interspersed between the speeches, entrances and exits of the performers, which nuance and complete the action.
An effective and aesthetic scenographic device allows for imaginary scene changes towards dressing rooms and suggestive moments against the light, with the collaboration of an intelligent lighting design. Special mention deserves the beautiful costumes and the timely use of masks.
Verónica Alvarenga and Eduardo Arias lend themselves to the dramatic game with sympathy and a tendency to overact, which sometimes plays tricks on them with diction. Skilled in choreography, it is towards the second half of the work where they reach their greatest dedication in acting. The avatars of love, placed on the tables, are the excuse to spend an entertaining moment.
