On Sunday, the detectives in Geleen are still searching the home of the man suspected of kidnapping Gino and of involvement in his death.
A neighborhood survey is also being conducted. The area surrounding the house on Dommelstraat has been cordoned off.
Constraint
The suspect is in restriction, which means that he is not allowed to have contact with the outside world outside his lawyer. He will be presented to the examining magistrate on Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest. His lawyer said on Sunday that “it will not respond to questions in any way related to the Gino and/or our client Donny M. case for the next three weeks.”
Curses
It is now raining curses, threats and even death wishes against the suspect on social media. Some of the expressions may be punishable, but since the suspect is in restrictions, those messages will escape him. The police also monitor social media. “We see it, we read it, we monitor it, we keep an eye on it. And anyone who feels threatened is free to report it,” said police spokesman Nathalie Vermeulen.
Takes place
The house is located across the street from where Gino’s body was found on Saturday morning behind a burned-out house on Opbraakstraat. Between the two houses is a small park with a playground and a walking path. Behind the burned-out houses, people put flowers, cuddly toys and candles down around noon on Sunday.
Social work
Social workers monitor the situation in the neighbourhood. In the Geleen neighborhood there is a lot of unrest about the news. “We look at what is needed, and we work together with the municipality and victim support. The impact of this case is enormous. We are looking at what we can organize for people who want to tell their story. That will probably be the first need. There is a lot of sadness, even dismay,” says social work manager Suzan Eerkens about the Lindenheuvel situation.
