Eight story-driven games to enjoy this year, from The Last of Us Part II to Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Prepare the handkerchiefs …
Movies and video games have transformed entertainment, but there’s a reason books still sell: people like to hear a good story. Sure, it’s great to dive into a video game map and fight 60 other players with your friends in Apex Legends, or throw a huge soccer ball into a door with a RC toy car in Rocket League, but sometimes all we want. is a good tale in one of the most beautiful story-driven games.
The best story-driven games –
This is why we have prepared a list of best story-driven games to try right now. You won’t find any games that are too old, so don’t start complaining about the absence of Final Fantasy for the first PlayStation. We just wanted to focus on things that are easy to catch up with now, in 2022 – and that’s exactly what you’ll find a few lines from here.
The Last of Us Part II –
If you haven’t played the first chapter yet, go play it now. If you have already done so, welcome to the far superior entourage.
Not only The Last of Us Part II has better gameplay than the first, but also has a more complex story, his characters are more tortured (sometimes literally), more nuanced. It makes you feel a certain way, and then completely reverses the script and your entire understanding of that world and its characters. It may seem like a game about violence, but it is equally so about empathy.
God of War –
Sony has fully occupied the sad dad market between this and The Last of Us. What makes God of War interesting is how he makes a seemingly irredeemable character worthy of redemption.

Kratos has changed since fatherhood, and we must travel with him as he learns to avoid his parents’ mistakes.
Red Dead Redemption 2 –
Speaking of redemption, here’s another antitragic anti-hero who is transformed by his journey.

Caught in a gang at a young age, the loyal nature of Arthur Morgan he sees it becoming a tool in the hands of bad people. It is only when death knocks on his door that he realizes the truth.
The Witcher 3 –
Okay, alright, another game for sad fathers. But, look, it’s really good. Without a doubt, the plot above that plans to save your adopted daughter is the least interesting thing in The Witcher 3 story.

His heart can be found in the little stories scattered around the world. It’s a game to hunt monsters, but the worst monsters often reside in the souls of men.
Disco Elysium –
A trade unionist was killed and hanged, and you are the policeman who was sent there to solve the case. You just don’t remember who you are, let alone how a cop works.

Disco Elysium is best written game ever made. It’s like a good book, and it has more to say about the state of the world than, well, just about any other game.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake –
Cloud Strife was a skilled soldier, but now works as a mercenary and helps an ecoterrorist group blow up a power plant.

Saying more would be a spoiler, but nothing is as it seems in this world of seven foot swords and pointed haircuts.

Life is Strange 2 –
Life is Strange 2 covers themes of brotherhood and diversity, telling a contemporary story of a couple of Latin American twins who are forced to become fugitives after a confrontation with a policeman.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy –
It’s not that the story is special here, it’s more the way it’s told. The dialogues are so dynamic, so natural, and the characters are interpreted and written to perfection.

Where most games have you being the driving force of every conversation, here you are just a part of the chaos.
