Former Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst is apparently about to move to Besiktas Istanbul. The English and Turkish media report unanimously. The 29-year-old was relegated from the Premier League with Burnley last season.
The Netherlands striker left VfL Wolfsburg in January to fulfill his dream of moving to England. With Burnley FC, however, he missed relegation, Weghorst scored only two goals in 20 Premier League games. The €14 million fee is listed as VfL Wolfsburg’s seventh-highest earnings from a single player sale. Weghorst scored 70 goals during his time in Lower Saxony.
According to media reports, his English club only want to loan the Dutchman, but Besiktas also want to negotiate a purchase option. The 2021 Turkish champions are currently being coached by former Wolfsburg coach Valérien Ismaël. At FC Burnley, despite the relegation, former HSV professional and Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany should take over.
