Lingo will return to television after the summer, but not on SBS 6. The Jan Versteegh game is moving to the poorly viewed TV channel Net5. A striking choice, thinks TV connoisseur Tina Nijkamp.
The well-known language game Lingo returned to the tube in the summer of 2019 with Jan Versteegh as presenter. After three seasons and 313 episodes on SBS 6, the program now moves to the much smaller sister channel Net5. A new season will start there from the end of August, Shownieuws reports.
‘Striking news’
The move to Net5, the second least viewed channel of the ten major TV stations of NPO, RTL and Talpa, caused surprise to Tina Nijkamp. The former channel boss of SBS 6 says: “Striking TV news. Is Net5 going to set a new course?”
Apparently Net5 opts for a different kind of viewer, according to Tina. “Net5 has been a young women’s channel since 1999, mainly with many foreign drama series, but this daily program is not very young and is much broader in terms of target group. Very curious to see what other programming will be on Net5 this fall.”
‘Pity about Jan’
Lingo’s move does not generate many reactions from the ordinary viewer. Angela says on the NU.nl reaction forum that it is a pity that Jan Versteegh returns as presenter. “He has limited vocabulary, which means that JP is often called in by Jan for the simplest things.”
And Thom says: “Jan is doing well, but I do get annoyed by his regularly skipping voice. He may not be able to do anything about it, but I find it irritating. Of course it could also be me.”
