In September last year, 32-year-old Jeffrey van den D. killed his ex-girlfriend Clarinda in broad daylight with dozens of stab wounds. That happened at her parents’ house at the Ploossche Hof in Den Bosch. The court in Den Bosch will give its verdict today.
Clarinda from Utrecht walked with her 1-year-old daughter in a pram at the Ploossche Hof at the beginning of September. She had ended the relationship with Van den D. on that 8 September, on the advice of the GGZ. The two had been in a troubled relationship for some time. In the period before the murder, for example, she already reported assault and rape by her boyfriend to the police. He also allegedly threatened to kidnap their daughter.
That day they had agreed to call as soon as their daughter was with her parents. But it didn’t come to that. Van den D. attacked Clarinda with a knife. She died right in front of her parents’ house.
Two weeks ago, 14 years in prison and TBS with compulsory treatment were demanded against the suspect from Nieuwegein. He then said in court that he had lost himself, lived outside reality and was driven by the fear of losing his daughter.
“We have lost an incredibly beautiful and intelligent woman,” said her sister Anne-Marije in court in Den Bosch. “Nota bene under my parents’ window and within sight of an empty supermarket.”
“I can still hear her screams reaching us through the open sliding door. She was practically in front of our house,” Clarinda’s mother added.
