Fontaines DC will release their third album, Skinty Fia, on April 22nd. The first single “Jackie Down The Line” has been available since January.
Skinty Fia is an Irish expression that translates to “the damnation of the stag”. The album’s cover features a deer that has been ejected from its natural habitat and placed in the hallway of a house, illuminated by an artificial red light.
The giant Irish deer is an endangered species, and is also used here as a metaphor for Irish identity, which is a central theme of Skinty Fia’s songs. The band is coming to grips with their Irish origins as seriously as they’ve ever done, while now making a new life elsewhere. The new songs reflect a kind of broadening of horizons while showing affection for the land and people that Fontaine’s DC left behind.
Fontaines DC will also perform live in Germany this summer. The concerts were actually planned earlier in the year, but due to the Corona situation they were postponed to July and August. The gigs are presented by ROLLING STONE.
Update: The show in Munich will take place at Backstage Werk, the gig in Cologne is now sold out.
