Several officers injured by strong violence against the police in the ADO stadium riots NOW

Four officers were injured in riots around the stadium of ADO Den Haag on Sunday evening, the police spokesperson reported to NU.nl. Supporters used “heavy force” towards the police. Several bystanders were also injured.

Some of the injured were treated at the scene and some were taken to hospital, police said. In any case, there is a leg injury.

The Mobile Unit (ME) had to intervene on Sunday in and around the stadium of ADO Den Haag, after the club missed promotion to the Eredivisie against Excelsior. Supporters of the home team stormed the field and the away section. Later, things got out of hand outside the stadium as well. Calm returned shortly before midnight.

Rioters used heavy violence against the officers. They threw, among other things, fireworks, street furniture and stones. The riot police then charged dogs and police horses, the police spokesman said. Several arrests have been made.

According to the police, the damage caused is being mapped and CCTV images are being secured to determine the identity of the rioters.

ADO supporters sought confrontation

During the match, which ended in 4-4 and was decided on penalties, some of the supporters already left the stands to go along the field. Things went wrong after the penalty shootout.

The celebratory Excelsior players and reporters fled into the catacombs for the onrushing ADO supporters, who then confronted the branch. They threw fireworks and objects.

When the riot police seemed to have the situation in the Cars Jeans Stadium under control fairly quickly, the unrest moved outside.
