Restaurant loses star: ‘Comes in like a bomb’ | 1Limburg

“From tomorrow we are proud to keep our Bib Gourmand from the Michelin in our brasserie LaVie. But this Michelin believes that we should not keep a star next year!” writes Valuas down facebook† In 2006 the Michelin star was awarded to the restaurant.

‘We are more than worth it’
According to the restaurant, after the corona restrictions and last year’s high water, the news comes like a bolt from the blue. “Everything shows that we are more than worth it. You come to visit us in large numbers again and again and appreciate us enormously. We continue to do what we are very good at, to pamper you as guests, at a high level!” The exact reason why the restaurant loses its star is not (yet) known. Valuas does write that they are doing everything they can to get the star back. “We are once again putting our shoulders to the wheel to bring that star back to the Urbanusweg next year!”

Current verdict
In the current guide Michelin still praises Valuas: “Eric Swaghoven’s kitchen is rich. In taste, of course, but also in influences. He is classically trained and likes to be inspired by Asia and modern techniques. You are in the right place here for a traditional beef tenderloin, for example. Stroganoff, whose sauce is prepared at the table.” The worldly side of Swaghoven is also praised: “Think of a ceviche preparation or a wonton with langoustine. His cuisine is fine. The wide variety of flavors keeps it exciting. And the wines? They match perfectly.”

Michelin stars
The new Michelin guide Netherlands 2022 will be presented in Amsterdam on Monday. Including the cream of the crop in terms of restaurants in our country: because the star restaurants are also included in that guide. Last year there were 11-star establishments in Limburg. Whether that will change on Monday remains to be seen. For the time being, the change at the restaurant in Venlo is the only early announcement.
