Much of Real Madrid’s success is due to Courtois and his saves at decisive moments in matches. The Champions League final was no exception, as in the first half he was decisive in avoiding Liverpool’s goal on three good scoring chances. In the 16th minute he took a point-blank shot from Salah from inside the area with a great stretch and just a minute later he intervened again in another shot by the Egyptian.
But the clearest chance was Mané, when a shot of his was touched by Courtois with the tips of his fingers and the ball hit the post. Salah once again put the Madrid goalkeeper to the test in a dry shot from the edge of the box but it was too focused.
Madrid is not playing a good game but has been able to advance with a goal from Benzema that the VAR has finally annulled. They have practically not approached Liverpool’s area while in his, Courtois is keeping his teammates alive in the final.
