In transvestism, Kees Wijgergangs (51) is one of the figureheads of Alkmaar Pride. He hopes to attract a lot of attention again during the canal parade tomorrow afternoon. “Lovely interaction with the people on the side. I’m really looking forward to it.”
In and around Alkmaar, Kees is better known to many as ‘Kees of the WC’s’. And once a year, the toilet host goes all out: he is one of the trendsetters during the Alkmaar Pride canal parade. The Pride is now celebrating its 13th edition and eleventh boat parade. Kees has participated in almost all of them.
good as you are
After two years of corona break, the parade can therefore be held again in Alkmaar. From 2 p.m. a colorful procession of about fifteen boats will pass through the city center. This year’s theme is ‘Free to be… Equality’. Something that Kees wholeheartedly supports: “I participate for fun, but I also want to radiate that you are good just the way you are. Period.”
Kees does not want to say much about what he will look like tomorrow. “Something with ‘proud’, but I’ll keep it a secret.” In the video below we try to get a glimpse:

Kees is alone on the boat this year. “My good friend Bram has emigrated to Spain, and will not fly back for this party, so I now have all the space for myself. He does give you all his best regards,” said a smiling Kees.
By the way, he can’t make it ‘too crazy’ during the parade. “Two drinks, that’s all.” Because at night he just has to work. And he doesn’t mind at all. “I’m at the toilets at a football party in Limmen. Every now and then it’s nice to perform. Nice and extravagant, totally awesome. But I’m most happy in my toilets.”
