Amazon is raising the price of its music streaming service. What Amazon Music Unlimited users should know about future costs.
Amazon is not only an online retailer, but also offers subscribers to its Prime tariff various other services. Now the prices for the music streaming subscription, Amazon Music Unlimited, are to be raised. Prime customers will have to pay more for the service in the future.
Amazon Music: Prices jump
After competitor Deezer has already raised its prices, some experts have expected that other music streaming services would follow. Now Amazon is the next provider to announce a price increase in Germany. This was to be expected, since subscription costs in Great Britain, for example, had already risen in April. German Amazon Music users must now expect higher costs from June 24th.
Amazon is still below the 10 euro mark, probably because it has previously operated well below this limit. In the future, however, Prime customers will have to pay 8.99 euros a month, which is one euro more than before. The costs for the annual subscription increase from 79 to 89 and thus by 10 euros. The Amazon Music prices for non-Prime customers remain untouched. So if you only want to stream music from Amazon, you still pay 9.99 euros per month.

Prime users will be asked to pay
What is surprising about this step is that the two price models are now so close together. For customers in Germany who currently pay 60 euros for Amazon Prime, the price reduction for Music Unlimited will be much less noticeable in the future. With monthly payment, the annual savings from the end of June are 12 euros, with annual debits 10 euros. This is remarkable in that in the past Amazon seemed to have pursued the strategy of marketing its Prime subscription to the maximum and subordinating the other services somewhat.
And those who use Amazon Music Unlimited via the Echo must also prepare for a price increase. There, the price also increases by one euro; from 3.99 to 4.99 euros per month. In this model, use of the service is limited to the Echo.

It remains to be seen whether other music streaming platforms such as Spotify or Apple Music will follow suit. For insiders, however, it is considered highly probable.
