THEtalia country of excellence, breathtaking landscapes, human warmth. Italy, a country of poverty, marginalization, indifference. The look on our country that offers “The Home FrontIs the sharp one of a reporter accustomed to wars like Domenico Quiricoassisted by the critical vision of Paola Piacenza. The front to which the title refers is that of the conflict between poverty and well-being, between humanity and inhumanity.

Exclusion as a system

We have been witnesses of unacceptable bankruptcies and extraordinary acts of oblation. Beyond any rhetoric. The journey and the meetings we have made have allowed us to reflect on politics»Says the director Paola Piacenza. “A policy that in Italy, but certainly not only here, has chosen to forget most of its citizens and exclude them from any possible vision of the world and the future“.

Domenico Quirico

I come home from a trip among the poor. I am looking for life, the stimulus, the key, the meaning. In the film of those encounters I see their every wrinkle, the tremors of the muscles, the blinking of the eyelids. There remains, after so many rumors, a great silence. I think back to the harsh, bare passage of Luke the evangelist: blessed are the poor and woe to you rich! But who are the poor? And who am I? A poor man or a rich man? With whom do I side every day, how do I obey this sentence with no way out? Who am I writing for?“.

That of the journalist de The print it is the voice that guides us in “The Internal Front”, through an Italy of injustice and social divide, a voice that does not accept indifference or mere compassion as an answer.

At the end of the journey I would like here too, as sometimes happens on the external fronts of our indifference, the poor to stop being calm and to be content with words and to change them into thought and weapon. And they screamed that justice is not done with tears and acceptance. But with the struggle and the anger“.
