While I was playing in Purmerend, suddenly there was noise in the hall. Had someone become unwell? Immediately afterwards I felt something shave over my head. I looked up and saw what looked like a bird, but was flying much faster. You could also see the theater light shining through its wings. That’s right: a bat.
That caused a lot of hilarity, but also some panic, because nowadays everyone associates bats with pandemics.
‘Is there perhaps an expert on small mammals in the room?’ I could finally ask. But no. Nobody knew what to do. We dimmed the light. We raised all the curtains. We open the loading/unloading door.
After fifteen minutes the bat was no longer visible and the performance could continue. But was the bat really gone? Or was he just silent for a moment? Again, the comparison with a pandemic came to the fore.
