Kaan had just come of age. He was the pride of his family. Kaan’s parents didn’t have much money, but he did well in school and made it to high school. A Berlin boy with dreams. After graduating from high school, he wanted to study space travel. On Saturday he was still playing football with his friends. Now Kaan is dead. Stabbed to death while fighting over a girl.
It is one of the tragic stories about Berlin’s youth that the BZ tells. youth brutal. Young people who commit violence or experience violence. Young people who threaten others with it, who risk their lives. Young people who get to know the most brutal side of life so early.
Like the joy of Kaan mourning at a table tennis table in Lichterfelde. And his little sister, who will only remember her big brother in photos and childhood experiences for the rest of her life.

But sometimes it’s not the amount of crime, it’s what’s left of it – traumatized witnesses, victims, people in fear and grief – that should never become normal.
