‘Escaped’ horse killed in Bentveld, motorist and rider unharmed

A motorist collided with a horse in Bentveld this morning. The animal did not survive the collision. The road is closed in both directions due to the accident.

The accident happened around 11 a.m. on Zandvoortselaan in Bentveld, a police spokesperson told NH Nieuws. The horse was being led by a rider, but was not being ridden at the time of the accident.

It appears that the horse escaped shortly before the collision and then ran onto the road, the spokesman said.

Motorist and rider unharmed

The driver and rider are both unharmed, the spokesman said. “But the accident is accompanied by a lot of emotion.” To protect passers-by from looking at the cadaver, the police have placed screens. Passers-by report that the horse is being removed with a tow truck.

It concerns a horse of the Bentveld stable and riding association De Naaldenhof, an employee of the company confirms to NH Nieuws. The equestrian center has yet to comment further on the fatal accident.
