18-year-old Nastasja Schunk (Ludwigshafen) made it into a main draw of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time despite her defeat in the qualification finals of the French Open.

The junior finalist from Wimbledon 2021 benefited from the injury to Croatian Ana Konjuh and, as a “lucky loser”, can now look forward to an attractive first round duel with former Paris winner Simona Halep (Romania / No. 19).

Schunk is the fifth German player in the main draw of Roland Garros alongside Angelique Kerber (Kiel/No. 21), Andrea Petkovic (Darmstadt), Tatjana Maria (Bad Saulgau) and qualifier Jule Niemeier (Dortmund).

The second Grand Slam tournament of the season begins on Sunday.
