The emergency services and Rijkswaterstaat will hold an exercise in the Koning Willem-Alexandertunnel in Maastricht on Wednesday evening.
According to Rijkswaterstaat, a tunnel exercise is required by law.
Four years
“This exercise is once every four years. The exercise in 2020 was canceled due to corona, and that of 2021 was canceled for that reason. Fortunately, this year,” a spokesperson for Rijkswaterstaat said. “The last tunnel exercise like this, in Limburg, was in the Roertunnel in 2019.”
Tunnel tubes closed
The King Willem-Alexandertunnel last had an exercise in 2016. Motorists should bear in mind that not all tunnel tubes are open. The lower tunnel layer (A2) will be closed on 18 to 19 May and the upper tunnel layer (N2) from 19 to 20 May.
