Maarten Poorter (43) has been nominated as mayor of Dijk en Waard. The PvdA member is currently the district chairperson in Amsterdam-East.
The City Council has just announced this.
Poorter was one of ten candidates who applied for the position. After Mascha ten Bruggencatewho started as mayor in Heiloo last July, Poorter is the second ‘Amsterdammer’ in a short time to make the switch to the region.
He is now presented for approval to the Minister of the Interior and the King, usually a formality. Because Dijk en Waard has more than 50,000 inhabitants, the nomination is also discussed in the Council of Ministers.
The new mayor will be sworn in on 13 July by the King’s Commissioner, Arthur van Dijk. Until then stays Peter Rehwinkel observer.
