A lunar eclipse involves the moon partially entering the shadow of the Earth, causing it to be eclipsed. This year it is extra special, because it is about a rare total lunar eclipse.

A total lunar eclipse will take place on the morning of Monday, May 16, 2022. The moon then moves through the shadow of the Earth. That means no direct sunlight falls on the lunar surface. The moon is then much darker than normal. Often the moon even turns a little orange or red.
Lunar eclipse time
To see this special lunar eclipse you have to set the alarm very early. It lasts from 5:29 AM to 6:55 AM. But there is a risk of cloud cover and the moon will set at 5:47 a.m. So to make sure you see something, it’s best to watch between 5:29 AM and 5:47 AM. You have the best chance if you live in the east or north.
In case you are still in doubt: the next full lunar eclipse in our country is only more than three years away, namely on September 7, 2025.
