Are you someone who regularly thinks at the end of the day, ‘Gosh, I only went to the toilet once’ or can’t remember her last drink of the day? Then there is a good chance that you are structurally giving your body too little moisture. Perhaps it will motivate you if you know that this can have (quite serious) consequences for your health.
An average adult body consists of sixty percent water and functions best when it consumes 2.8 liters of water. You get about a liter by eating, another 300 milliliters is released by processes in your body. This means that you would still have to supplement it yourself with at least 1.5 liters of moisture. You do not only have to drink water for this, a cup of coffee, tea, glass of soft drink or juice also counts. Check if you can do this every day. Yes? Very good. New? This is what happens to your body if you are often under it.
Kidney damage if you drink too little
Moisture helps keep your blood vessels open, so your blood can easily carry all the nutrients throughout your body. If you drink too little, you make this transport more difficult for your body, so that waste products remain in the kidneys and can accumulate there. The development of kidney stones is therefore a risk. If you drink too little and do so for a long time, it can cause permanent kidney damage and inflammation. If you often have dark yellow urine, this is a sign that you can drink more.
Cognitive problems
If you regularly have a cotton wool head, or have the feeling of ‘mist’ in your head, it could be a result of drinking too little. Substances that are necessary for your nervous system to function optimally are transported via moisture. If there is too little of this in stock, you can suffer from memory loss and concentration problems. If you suffer from mood swings, this can be a signal that your body could use a little more fluid.
And further…
Your eyes are also not happy with too little moisture. Dry eyes, blurred vision or tired eyes are often a result of too little fluid in your body. Not surprising when you know that water is important for the removal of waste from the eyes. In addition, your blood pressure drops if you drink too little, which can make you dizzy. If you have a limp head of hair, try whether a few glasses of water a day has a positive effect on this.
Making more drinking easier
There are countless apps that help you remember your drinking moments. After entering your age, gender, height and weight, most apps calculate how much fluid you still need and send you a push notification that tells you it’s time for a glass of water. If you stick to this frequency for a while, your body will automatically get used to more fluids and therefore ask for it more.
