Xsensible International is a Dutch shoe brand that draws inspiration from all corners of the world, especially Japan. The brand maintains traditional values and combines them with the latest techniques. Known for its stretchwalker concept developed in Japan, Xsensible shoes have their origins in the basic principle of the Japanese slipper "Ippon-ba geta".
origins
The family company Xsensible was founded in 1918 as the shoe factory Nimco in Nijmegen, which is still the parent company of the brand today. The company soon moved its production to Portugal. In the city of Porto, the shoes are made in the traditional way in state-of-the-art factories equipped with the latest machines and production facilities. In addition to the Xsensible ready-to-wear shoes, these factories also produce orthopedic shoes for sister company Nimco. The Xsensible collections are inspired by the trends and looks of the season, with a focus on craftsmanship.
evolution
1970 was an important year for parent company Nimco. The company moved its production to Portugal and held a shoe sale in the old factory building in Nijmegen, where it soon opened a shopping center with its first own store. In 2007, Xsensible started its international expansion and expanded its business into Asia, opening exclusive shop-in-shops with its main customers in China, Japan and Singapore.
Xsensible has also taken important steps in terms of sustainability. It’s about energy-efficient business premises, but also about avoiding waste in the use of materials. In 2016, Xsensible won Nimco’s Golden Shoe, the most important award for Dutch shoe companies. In addition, Dutch shoe designer Jan Janssen designed an actual golden shoe for the walking event The Nijmeegse Vierdaagse.
Current
Since the introduction of the Stretchwalker concept in 2014, interest from foreign partners has increased and the number of sales points in the Netherlands has increased from 30 to 400 in a short period of time. Sales outlets are also being added in countries such as Germany, Belgium, Finland, Ireland, Great Britain, Israel, America and Canada.
