The European Commission had warned of negative consequences if the population were to reject the proposal. A prognosis after the closing of the polls shows that 72 percent voted in favour, the broadcaster SRF reported.
The Swiss also supported proposals to allow streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon and Disney+ to invest four percent of their turnover in Switzerland in making Swiss films from 2024. Nearly six in ten Swiss voted in favour. The offer of streaming services must consist for 30 percent of films or series that have been produced in Europe.
The third topic voted on was organ donation. A proposed amendment to the law that would automatically make everyone an organ donor upon death unless otherwise noted, won 59 percent of voters.
