Germany narrowly won the second game at the Ice Hockey World Championships in Finland. The team of national coach Toni Söderholm drew 2-1 against Slovakia. After the opening defeat against Canada on Friday (3:5), this victory was necessary to keep legitimate hopes for the quarter-finals.
Thanks to the goals of Matthias Plachta (22nd minute) and Leo Pföderl (27th), the 2021 World Cup semi-finalist has secured the first points before the supposedly decisive preliminary round games. The third game against outsiders France is on Monday. Germany lost 4-0 to Slovakia at the Winter Olympics and had to leave before the quarter-finals.
