Contract expires in 2023
Goalkeeper Marwin Hitz (34) will leave Borussia Dortmund early after four years. The Swiss announced this via Instagram. “Even though it wasn’t easy for me, I decided to take on a new challenge,” wrote Hitz, whose contract in Dortmund originally expired next year.
Hitz moved from FC Augsburg to BVB on a free transfer in 2018, where he mainly played the role of substitute goalkeeper. Since arriving, the two-time international has featured in 46 games, in which he has kept 19 clean sheets. This season he represented regular Gregor Kobel (24) in six games. “I am very grateful for the time, the experiences, the successes and above all the games in front of you fans at Signal Iduna Park. Thanks to every Borussia player for their support in good times and bad,” wrote Hitz.
It is still unclear which club he will play for in the future. According to Transfermarkt information, FC Basel wants to bring the goalkeeper back to Switzerland. In the Dortmund area, there is talk of a specific interest. The “kicker” recently linked Hitz to a return to FC Augsburg, for whom he played 157 games – more than for any other club.
