Russia: no reason for Finland and Sweden to join NATO

Russia: Finland and Sweden have no reason to join NATO

Russia has no intention of taking hostile steps against Finland and Sweden. Therefore, there are no “real” reasons for those countries to join NATO. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said on Saturday.

Finland and Sweden have not yet taken an official decision on joining NATO, but they seem to be tending to do so. More information will be released this weekend about the ambitions of both countries to join the alliance. NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg previously said the countries could join soon.

NATO foreign ministers will meet in Berlin on Saturday evening. Sweden and Finland will also join the working dinner. Their possible accession and the Russian war against Ukraine are the main items on the agenda. Minister Hoekstra is present on behalf of the Netherlands.
