Rare job for the Berlin fire brigade: She had to step in as an obstetrician for spadefoot toads.
The Lichtenberg district had asked for administrative assistance because the water level in the Annenpuhl and in the new priest’s hut had dropped dramatically. That’s where the strictly protected Quakers live. Due to the low water level, their spawn threatened to dry up.
The firefighters came, rolled out their hoses and pumped water into the ponds, so that the water level in both bodies of water could be increased by 20 to 30 centimeters.
The water campaign was a complete success. Just two days later, the tadpoles of the spadefoot toad parents hatched.
