De Brabander won 6-1 against the Scotsman Peter Wright, who didn’t stand a chance against the three-time world champion. Van Gerwen is thus already assured of participating in the Final Four in Berlin on Monday 13 June. The next two Thursdays will still be played in London and Newcastle.
First, the three-time world champion goes up for the victory in Sheffield. Van Gerwen will soon face Michael Smith in the semi-finals, who after a 2-5 deficit still won 6-5 against Jonny Clayton.
Gerwyn Price already qualified for the final by beating Joe Cullen 6-4.
