The deforestation of the Amazon region in Brazil has increased sharply in the first months of this year, according to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The nature organization calculates that almost 70 percent more rainforest was cleared during this period than in the preceding months. The WWF makes a connection with the upcoming presidential elections in Brazil and with the war in Ukraine.
