Amsterdam (AP) – Ajax Amsterdam has secured the football championship in the Netherlands for the 36th time. On the penultimate matchday, the traditional club made it perfect by beating SC Heerenveen 5-0 (3-0).
The 3-2 success of pursuers PSV Eindhoven with German coach Roger Schmidt and Rio World Champion Mario Götze against NEC Nijmegen was no longer able to change that. Ajax are four points ahead of Eindhoven in the table.
As a result, successful coach Erik ten Hag is leaving the record champion with his third championship title in four years for Manchester United. Right-back Noussair Mazraoui was also in the starting XI for Amsterdam. The Moroccan will switch to Bayern Munich in the summer.
