Russian Football Association is present at UEFA congress despite suspension | NOW

A delegation from the Russian Football Association will visit the UEFA congress in Vienna. That happens despite the suspension that has kept Russia out of all international competitions since the invasion of Ukraine.

According to the Russian news agency R-Sport Both President Aleksandr Dyukov and Secretary-General Aleksandr Alayev traveled to the Austrian capital. The news agency relies on a statement from the Russian Football Association.

Dyukov is said to attend a UEFA executive committee meeting on Tuesday afternoon, while Alayev will represent Russia at the congress on Wednesday. Discussions include an adjustment to the Champions League and the allocation of the Conference League final of 2023.

UEFA recently announced that the suspension for Russian (club) teams will remain in place, which means that Russia will not be represented in all European tournaments next season.

In February, the world football association FIFA and UEFA jointly announced that Russia was no longer allowed to participate internationally. That line will therefore be continued by UEFA as of next season, while FIFA has not yet made itself heard.

UEFA also decided that Russia is not eligible to organize the European Championship in 2028 or 2032. Despite all the commotion, the country surprisingly made itself available at the end of March.
