With 29 goals this season in 29 second division games for FC Schalke 04, Simon Terodde has played a key role in promotion. According to Daniel Thioune, former HSV coach and current head coach of Fortuna Düsseldorf, the attacker would also be successful at Bayern.
Simon Terodde can make another attempt in the German football upper house. The most successful second division goalscorer of all time, who replaced Hanover legend Dieter Schatzschneider in the FC Schalke 04 jersey in the 2021/22 season, delivers goals like on an assembly line.
In the past five games alone, the native of Bocholt scored eight goals for the S04, with which he played a significant role in the promotion.
Olaf Thon, world champion from 1990 and long-time companion of his FC Schalke 04, sees Simon Terodde even called up for higher things. “I think his many goals in the 2nd division have shown that he is suitable for the first division. […] Hansi Flick should definitely think about whether Simon Terodde is going to the World Cup. Because I don’t see such a player far and wide in the German squad,” said Thon on “Sport1”.
Would Simon Terodde also be successful at Bayern?
“Simon has definitely earned the first league again,” said Düsseldorf coach Daniel Thioune on the show, initially a little more cautiously. Whether Terodde really fits into the DFB selection, meanwhile, also depends heavily on Hansi Flick’s style of play and that of the opponent. Terodde feels comfortable in teams that “have a lot of the ball”, the coach continues: “Then there are certainly situations in which he finds deals in the box.”
Thioune added: “I say Simon Terodde scores 25 goals at Bayern Munich because he has those opportunities.”
So far, Simon Terodde’s positions in the German House of Lords have not really gone according to plan. He scored ten goals in a total of 58 Bundesliga games for 1. FC Köln and VfB Stuttgart. However, the second division top scorer of the 15/16, 16/17, 18/19 and – in all likelihood – the 21/22 season was never selected for a DFB selection.
