De Brabander put in a very strong series this weekend. Successively Jonny Clayton (6-4), Dirk van Duijvenbode (6-5), Luke Humphries and Van den Bergh in the final battle. An average of almost 103 and 41 percent used doubles were far too powerful for his opponent from Belgium. It was much more difficult against Van Duijvenbode earlier in the day. Van Gerwen survived no less than seven match darts against his compatriot.
It marked the 35th victory on the European Tour for Van Gerwen. The Dutchman is back after a few difficult years, it seems. Last week he also won a tournament in Austria. Last Thursday, despite a defeat in the final, he qualified for the play-offs of the Premier League.
