Twitter announced on May 5 the arrival of new features for its chat rooms, the Spaces. Among them, the possibility, for the hosts, to access the statistics of their spaces.

The Twitter Spaces are getting richer

The new features unveiled by the social network are being tested by some users on iOS and Android.

Hosts and co-hosts will now have access to data and statistics for their spaces. They will be able to know how many people have connected to listen to it, how many times the space has been replayed and how many speakers have taken the floor. This feature was launched in March with a few users and has recently been extended to everyone who can create spaces.

Twitter is also experimenting with a feature that allows creators to automatically share their space in a tweet when it begins. This will allow users to better spot and be able to participate in Spaces.

Finally, the social network plans to give users more information about the current spaces. It will be possible to see who animates a space, what subject is discussed there, who is talking and if tweets are shared there.

Audio fairs, a more complex format than it seems

Since buying the Breaker app in 2021, Twitter has been putting a lot of effort into growing its audio channels. The feature is designed to compete with Clubhouse, a live audio application that met with great success during confinement in April 2020.

Many web giants have managed to follow the trend, such as Reddit with the Talks. On the other hand, some of them missed the boat and became interested in it too late. Laggards have scaled back their ambitions like Spotify and its Greenroom chat rooms. These failures can be explained by a crowded market and by the loss of interest from users around this type of space.

More recently, Facebook announced the shutdown of its podcast service and other audio services on its platform. Audio channels will be merged with Facebook Live to allow the social network to focus on features that are easier to monetize.
