Second residents must get taxes from corona year 2020 back

According to the Bruges judge, the couple did not have to pay the municipal tax, because they were not allowed to go to their country residence due to the lockdown. This case could set a precedent for many other second home residents, says lawyer Bart Engelen.

“We see that the number of files is only increasing. It started with a few dozen second homes, which then started to grow to hundreds. I think we can already speak of thousands. I am not just talking about the people who participate in the class action through our office. There are also other authorities that have sounded the alarm on the cat.”

A procedural battle with the coastal municipalities is imminent if those municipalities do not reconcile themselves with a ruling such as this one and lodge an appeal.
