Change now perfectly
“I read that, but I can say that nothing will happen until the end of the season,” national player Nico Schlotterbeck said after SC Freiburg’s entry into the DFB Cup final on “Sky” about a report that he was in favor of a I decided to switch from SC Freiburg to Borussia Dortmund. The transfer has now been officially announced. At first, “picture” and “sports1“ reported that the 22-year-old completed the medical check in Dortmund on Monday and then signed a contract.
Schlotterbeck’s working paper is valid longer than the image initially reported – according to BVB, the central defender has signed a contract until 2027. With Matthias Ginter, SC Freiburg has apparently found a successor for Schlotterbeck, and the return of the free national player is imminent. Possibly a reason why Schlotterbeck’s transfer was released early.

Schlotterbeck from SC Freiburg to BVB: Fee lower than for Schulz
The transfer fee for the central defender was around 25 million euros. According to reports, the base fee is 20 million, another 5 million can be added through bonuses. This would initially make Schlotterbeck the fifth most expensive defender in BVB history, Mats Hummels (30.5 million), Abdou Diallo (28 million), Nico Schulz (25.5 million) and Manuel Akanji (21.5 million) cost more. If the bonuses were achieved, the left-footed player would place himself just behind Schulz.

BVB sports director Michael Zorc said of the new signing: “Nico Schlotterbeck is a young German national player who has made great progress. His profile fits BVB perfectly.” For Zorc, who is retiring in Dortmund at the end of the season, it is one of the last major transfers. He continued: “Nico’s path reminds me of my own, because I came to BVB from Freiburg as a young national player of his age. I hope that Dortmund will be just as much a new home for him as it was for me.”
Zorc praised Schlotterbeck’s “huge potential. He didn’t choose the economically best offer from among the many interested clubs, but deliberately chose BVB in order to develop further in sport here. We are very pleased that we were able to convince Nico of our path and that he made a clear commitment to Borussia Dortmund by signing a long-term contract. On behalf of BVB, I would like to thank SC Freiburg for the confidential and fair talks.”
Schlotterbeck is the second external Dortmund signing for the new season. National team colleague Niklas Süle (26) comes on a free transfer from FC Bayern. On the other hand, the departures of Roman Bürki (31; St. Louis) and Axel Witsel (33, destination open) after the end of their contracts have been confirmed. The soon-to-be-Dortmunder said: “In consultation with all parties involved, I have decided to announce my move to Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022 today. I would like to create clarity for SC Freiburg, Borussia Dortmund and myself personally. It’s important to me to be able to fully concentrate on the remaining three games with SC Freiburg in the home straight of the season, which we hope to play successfully. After that, I’m looking forward to the new tasks with BVB.”
