The combination of the May holidays and staff shortages at Schiphol will once again cause considerable crowds this weekend. Despite the waiting times, the atmosphere in the queue is good: many travelers are especially eager to start their holiday.
Around 70,000 people are expected to travel via Schiphol today. “We have bottles of water and sandwiches with us!”, said a woman who was waiting in line to customs. Despite the long waiting times, the atmosphere is good, most of those waiting are already at their holiday destination in their minds.
At departure hall 2, the rows are even outside on the street. “First here in line in the sun, luckily we still have a few rows to go inside,” says one holidaymaker sarcastically, as she shuffles another two steps towards her final destination.
