Werder Bremen suffered a heavy setback in the promotion race of the 2nd Bundesliga. Bremen surprisingly lost 2-3 (2-1) against Holstein Kiel on Friday evening and carelessly gave up a 2-0 lead against coach Ole Werner’s former club. For Werner it was only the second defeat with Werder ever.

But two own goals by Füllkrug (45′) and Anthony Jung (71′) brought Kiel back. Five minutes before the end, Julian Korb even ensured the victory for Kiel and thus caused horror among the Bremen team, who had to give up the lead in the table to FC Schalke 04 again. Kiel finally secured the class with the success.
Terodde’s last-minute goal: Schalke 04 takes a big step towards promotion
Thanks to double goal scorer Simon Terodde, FC Schalke 04 has underpinned its promotion ambitions. In the 2-1 (0-0) win at SV Sandhausen, Terodde gave his team the lead on Friday evening (71st minute) before SVS captain Dennis Diekmeier equalized (83rd). In stoppage time, the attacker was back on the spot. Due to the defeat of SV Werder Bremen, the Gelsenkircheners regained the lead in the table. Sandhausen is not finally saved by the result.
