2nd league: False start for St. Pauli

2nd league

Düsseldorf (dpa) – Second division autumn champions FC St. Pauli prevented the first home defeat of the season at the last minute and thus retained the lead in the table.

Etienne Amenyido saved the Kiez-Kickern in injury time in the surprising 2:2 (1:1) against relegation candidate Erzgebirge Aue the draw. Ben Zolinski and Nikola Trujic had previously given the Saxons the lead twice.

Jakov Medic scored the first goal for Hamburg. “We didn’t play the way we imagined. We’re not satisfied with that,” said St. Pauli captain Philipp Ziereis.

Darmstadt also plays a draw

Nevertheless, Hamburg remain at the top because pursuers Darmstadt 98 did not get more than 2: 2 (0: 1) over Karlsruher SC at home in the evening. With a win, the Hessians would have climbed to first place. Darmstadt’s Klaus Gjasula first scored an own goal (22′), then he (48′) and Fabian Holland (51′) provided the lead with a double strike. Fabian Schleusener (71st) equalized again for KSC, which was then denied a third goal due to a narrow offside position.

Bundesliga relegated SV Werder Bremen continued their winning streak and moved up to third place with a 3-0 (0-0) win over Fortuna Düsseldorf. Niclas Füllkrug (2) and Marvin Ducksch scored for the fourth consecutive win for the hosts.

The best away team in the league remains SC Paderborn, who, after five games in a row without a win, made a big leap forward with a 2-1 (2-0) win at 1. FC Nürnberg. Sven Michel and Felix Platte scored the goals for the sixth away win in the ninth game. For Nürnberg it was only enough for Mats Möller Daehli to score.

Dresden gets a point against HSV

Hamburger SV, on the other hand, who slipped to fourth place behind Werder, gave away two points again in the 1-1 draw at Dynamo Dresden and confirmed their reputation as the draw king of the 2nd division. Coach Tim Walter’s team drew for the tenth time in 19 games.

“We simply didn’t put enough of what we had planned on the pitch,” said the HSV coach. “Basically, we didn’t have enough ball possession. That wasn’t enough from my whole team,” said Walter, who is challenged with his team in Tuesday’s DFB Cup at 1. FC Köln.

Hannover 96 was able to record an important victory in the relegation battle. The Lower Saxony won the duel between the table neighbors at FC Hansa Rostock with a goal from Linton Maina 1-0 and thus managed the third win in the fourth game under coach Christoph Dabrowski.
