Among market value losers 2021
Goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka can imagine an extension of his expiring contract with SV Werder Bremen under one condition. “I like the city, I like the club. If everything goes well and we get promoted, I can imagine staying in Bremen,” said the 30-year-old Czech in a media round (quoted via “dyke room“).
The 14-time national player has been playing for the Green-Whites since 2017 and has since reached a market value of 12 million euros. Since then, however, things have been going downhill for Pavlenka in this discipline. Over the past twelve months, the goalkeeper’s market value has fallen from EUR 6.5 million to EUR 2.5 million – because of his status as a second division goalkeeper, his age and the fact that he has not been nominated for the national team since June 2021.

“Of course the Bundesliga is important to me. If I want to play in the national team again and have a chance to be number one, I have to play in a top league,” Pavlenka emphasized. Last December he made it clear that he couldn’t imagine a second year in the 2nd Bundesliga. There had already been talks about an extension at the beginning of the season, but these were broken off due to the temporary role as reserve goalkeeper behind Michael Zetterer (26).
Pavlenka does not want to deal with a change or negotiations about an extension in the coming weeks. He told his advisor that “I want to concentrate fully on the last three games now, because I don’t care what’s coming in the summer right now. I want to move up with Werder Bremen. That’s the most important thing for me at the moment.” Possible offers, whether from Bremen or from another interested club, will have to wait. The last game in the second division is scheduled for May 15, and Werder are currently at the top of the table.
