Sony usually announces the games that will be available for free for PS Plus subscribers in the coming month on its PlayStation Blog. As is so often the case, there is an early leak for May. TECHBOOK has checked what the new titles are good for.
We won’t officially find out until tomorrow which free PlayStation games are waiting for PS Plus subscribers in May. However, games have already been leaked via Dealabs and the user billbill-kun, who has already distinguished himself in the past with apt insider knowledge. According to the published information, PlayStation Plus will launch in May 2022 with three games. Those who have one of the PS Plus subscriptions can download the titles free of charge from May 3rd.
The free PlayStation Plus games for May 2022
PS Plus subscribers can look forward to three titles again in May. But what good are the games? TECHBOOK has summarized reviews and player ratings.
FIFA 22 (PS4 + PS5)
The “FIFA” game series is certainly not only known to fans, as the first part appeared in 1993 with “FIFA International Soccer”. Since then, the football simulation game has been published every year. With “FIFA 22” developer EA is making a clearer development than in previous years – especially on the PS5. With the so-called Hypermotion, all movements look smoother, and defense and attack behavior is also significantly improved thanks to AI. For the PlayStation 5 (and the Xbox Series X) there is a new tutorial where you can, for example, meet David Beckham in the streets of Paris. In addition, the mode in which you can create your own club is coming back.
Among other things, critics praise the variety of different modes and the graphics of the new “FIFA” part. The cost point that is often mentioned in the series, the game normally costs around 80 euros, is eliminated with the offer within the PS Plus subscription. Many of the positive points mentioned by critics and players, such as the hypermotion, also apply explicitly to the PS5 edition. If you still play on a PS4, you have to make some compromises. If the leak comes true, that would be a pretty good deal for PS5 owners.

Curse of the Dead Gods (PS4)
The action rogue-lite “Curse of the Dead Gods” is a classic representative of its kind. From a bird’s eye view, players have to fight through comic-style dungeons. At the end of each level a boss is waiting. The numerous opponents are joined by some nasty mechanics that make the game exciting.
The game by indie developer Passtech Games does not in any way reinvent the wheel, but above all it is visually fun. With a meta score of 79 and a user score of 7.6, critics and players are in agreement in this case. The rather thin story is criticized. But if you are in the mood for a varied combat system, this is the right game for you.
Tribes of Mitgard (PS4 + PS5)
In 2021, “Tribes of Midgard” went through the roof on Steam quite surprisingly. The genre mix of role-playing, roguelike and survival games was well received by many. There is both a solo and a co-op mode for up to ten players. As Vikings, players explore the world during the day, collect resources and treasures and protect the world tree Yggdrasil from oncoming hordes of monsters at night.
In addition to the great success of the game, there was also a lot of criticism. This was primarily because the trailer was a bit misleading in terms of genre distribution within the game. In the trailer, Tribes of Midgard looks like an action survival game like Valheim. What you end up getting is more of a tower survival game about upgrading and defending your base. According to critics, the game does that very well. The game world is also good.
