Merel van Dongen hopes for a positive spiral at Dutch clubs
AMSTERDAM – For the second time in a month, the FC Barcelona women’s team has virtually sold out the nearly 100,000-seat Camp Nou. On Friday evening, VfL Wolfsburg got to see all corners of the impressive Catalan football cathedral: 5-1. Orange international Merel van Dongen, who plays for Atletico Madrid herself, hopes that the Dutch clubs will see the images of the packed stadium as extra encouragement. “We have to get rid of the idea that women’s football is not profitable.”
