The suspect, who lives not far from the place where the victim was found lifeless without his clothing, bag and knee brace, is in complete restriction. Langenberg went by bus from Alkmaar to Egmond aan Zee on Sunday and was found lifeless by passers-by right next to a men’s meeting place. His initially disappeared phone was handed in by honest finders in a bookstore in Egmond. The police stated earlier this week: “We are now 100 percent sure that the man, a resident of Alkmaar, was killed by violence. We are not making any announcements about how he was killed in connection with the investigation, because that concerns specific offender information.
Peter Langenberg has worked as a host in hotel-restaurant Hof van Schoorl for 15 years. His violent death plunges the coastal village into deep mourning.
‘We won’t get Peter back with this’
Owner Daniël Bakker of Hof van Schoorl heard the news on Friday evening around half past eight while he was busy serving dinners for his guests: ,,I just have to continue to take care of the guests, Peter would have that too. done. I feel a sense of relief now that a suspect has been apprehended. So really no big deal because we won’t get Peter back with this. On the other hand, I hope that justice will eventually come and that it will become clear who and what brought Peter to his end so horribly. And above all why.”
In the restaurant, the staff has set up a memorial corner for the beloved host: “Everyone sympathizes. People keep walking in to express their condolences. Those were days full of tears and I think that will continue for a while.”
Meeting place
The Gaykrant’s editor-in-chief Rick van der Made is concerned that Langenberg’s body was found near a men’s meeting place. “It is clear that such men’s meeting places are more often used for abuse, robbery and violence. Many men who visit these places are vulnerable, they are looking for anonymity. It seems clear to me that we as a community have to do something about this. We should not, however, prejudge the conclusions of the ongoing investigation. Once all the facts are clear, we will start a dialogue about the safety of these places.”
