Robert Lewandowski’s whereabouts at FC Bayern in the 2022/23 season still do not seem to have been finally clarified. It’s no wonder that the names of potential successors are making the rounds in the media. An attacker from the English Premier League is said to have done it to the people of Munich.
Raúl Jimenez is said to have been targeted by FC Bayern when looking for a replacement for goalscorer Robert Lewandowski. The portal reports “elfutbolero.us” with reference to “various sources”.
According to this, the German record champions are said to have put out feelers for the Mexican as early as 2020, but were rejected by his employer Wolverhampton Wanderers. However, the commitment of the national player was not a priority for the bosses on Säbener Straße, it is said.
This summer, however, the interest should be more serious. The German industry leader is said to have already prepared an offer for 25 million euros. Wolverhampton are reportedly ready to talk, especially as Wolves look set to miss out on international business in 2022/23.
Investment should not be very tempting for FC Bayern
If you ignore the information that “elfutbolero.us” wants to have, the rumor has extremely shaky foundations. Jimenez (contract until 2024) is already 30 years old, would be 31 if he moved to Munich and would no longer be an investment in the future. It seems impossible for Bayern to throw 25 million euros into the ring.
In addition, the right foot has lost his nose for goal. In November 2020, Jimenez suffered a fractured skull, he only returned to the pitch in July 2021, but has been lagging behind in form ever since. So far in 2021/22 there have been six goals in 30 competitive games. The South American would be more of a backup, but not a replacement for Lewandowski.
It is also far from clear that Bayern will let the Poles go. The “Sport Bild” recently reported that from a fee of 40 million euros you could become weak, but Bayern’s sports director Oliver Kahn recently told “DAZN” that Lewandowski will definitely fulfill his contract until 2023.
