Bielefeld (dpa) – At least one serious injury every week: Arminia Bielefeld is currently suffering from one injury to the head, neck and face after the other in the relegation battle of the Bundesliga.
Club record scorer Fabian Klos was hit first, then defender Cédric Brunner and in the 3-0 defeat against FC Bayern Munich on Easter Sunday, midfielder Fabian Kunze had to be carried off the field on a stretcher.
“A lot is being asked of us at the moment,” said coach Frank Kramer. “But you can also come out of it stronger by saying: ‘Okay, if fate puts a lot in our backpacks, then we’ll fight it even more determinedly and move even closer together.” That’s how we have to approach the next game in Cologne .”
It is still unclear whether one of the three injured in aerial duels will be able to play again this season. “Cedi and Fabi Klos are on the mend again and that’s the most important thing,” said captain Manuel Prietl after all. Kunze is stable and conscious, Kramer said. His 23-year-old player was hit hard in the arm by Bayern defender Tanguy Nianzou. “If we’re honest, it’s a red card for me,” said Kramer. Nianzou saw yellow.
