Show jumper Katrin Eckermann surprisingly won the second stage of this year’s million-dollar series Global Champions Tour.
In Miami, the 31-year-old from Sassenberg prevailed in the jump-off of the Grand Prix, which is endowed with 300,000 euros. On her nine-year-old mare Cala Mandia, she showed the fastest clear ride in the jump-off and relegated the Irish Shane Sweetnam on Aleiandro and the Belgian Gilles Thomas on Luna to second and third place.
The German champion Tobias Meyer on Greatest Boy also remained undefeated in the jump-off. He finished fourth. Eckermann received 100,000 euros for her victory.
The other German riders Christian Kukuk on Mumbai, Christian Ahlmann on Mandato and Ludger Beerbaum on Mila missed the jump-off after several mistakes in the normal round.
After two events out of a total of 16 tournaments, Beerbaum leads the overall standings ahead of Michael Duffy from Ireland and Ahlmann. Eckermann is fifth after her success in Miami. Beerbaum won the opening competition this year in Doha.
