Samsung has launched the Galaxy Z Fold 8, representing the latest generation of its renowned foldable smartphone series. This model brings significant advancements in design, display technology, and overall performance, while also refining some features and functionalities.
Compact Design and Display Innovation
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is designed with a more compact structure, weighing just 201 grams and measuring a mere 4.5 millimeters in thickness when unfolded. Its outer cover display is 5.5 inches and supports various aspect ratios such as 4:3, 16:10, and 10:16. Impressively, around 80% of user interactions are said to occur on this external display.
The main internal display features a spacious 7.6 inches, utilizing Samsung’s innovative Flex Titanium Display technology. This approach minimizes the visibility of the crease at the center of the screen. With a peak brightness reaching an astonishing 3,000 nits and an anti-reflective coating, the visuals are nothing short of spectacular. Additionally, the device is IP48 certified, ensuring improved protection against water and dust ingress.
Performance Specifications and Battery Life
At the heart of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, also referred to as Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy. Users can opt for either 12 GB or 16 GB of RAM, with internal storage options ranging from 256 GB up to a massive 1 TB.
Battery life is powered by a robust 4,800 mAh silicon-carbon battery, capable of wired charging at 45 watts. Real-world tests indicate that under heavy use, the battery can sustain a display time of approximately six hours before retaining about 20% capacity. For video playback, users can enjoy around 26 hours of continuous viewing.
Camera System and Functional Limitations
The camera setup on the standard model comprises two 50-megapixel sensors, with capabilities for recording videos in stunning 8K resolution. However, there is no dedicated telephoto lens or the 200-megapixel sensor featured in other high-end Samsung models. A new software function called “My Fan Cam AI” aims to enhance photographic experiences.
It’s worth noting that the feature set has seen some adjustments compared to previous models. Reports suggest that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 lacks a Flex Mode and does not support the S Pen stylus.
Launch Details and Ultra Variant
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 will be available in a range of colors: Graphite, Lavender, Cream, and Pistachio. The starting price for the 256 GB model is set at $1,899.99 in the U.S. market. In India, prices will range from ₹1,79,999 for the base version to ₹2,39,999 for the 1 TB variant. Pre-orders commenced on July 22, 2026, with an official launch date slated for August 14, 2026.
Moreover, Samsung has introduced the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, which features an even slimmer design at just 4.1 millimeters when unfolded and a 20% wider gap. This variant includes a larger 5,000 mAh battery, a 200-megapixel main camera, and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens offering three times optical zoom. Though the Ultra model also utilizes the Flex Titanium Display, experts note that while the crease has been minimized, it remains somewhat visible. The Ultra variant is priced at $2,099.
